My wife and I stayed at the parrot April 21-27th,
spent our first night in Old San Juan (Hotel Milano,
great location and cheap) checked out OSJ and the El
Morro Fort (excellent), then hopped a flight on Cape
Air to Mayaguez ($300 RT for 2), rented a Jeep
Wrangler from Budget at the Mayaguez Airport ($500
for a week) and drove 20 minutes to Rincon.
Rincon is basically what I describe as "3" distinct
areas; you have the beach coast (from Tres Sirenas
down the Rincon Beach Hotel), the surfing coast
(from Tres Palmas up to Sandy Beach), and the
highlands (Route 413 and most of the roads away from
the beaches). If you have a map of Rincon, wrap it
around a basketball and that's pretty much the
terrain, unless you are down right in town or on the
beaches the roads are up and down and very tight
(which is fun to drive!).
On to the Parrot....
We stayed in Room 11, which is secluded on the top
level in the back (facing away from the road in
front). This room has the most private patio in the
whole place, as nobody will be walking past your
room (see pictures). Great accomodations,
comfortable and clean. The walls are paper thin, so
noisy guests can ruin your stay (this happened to us
night one, some kids were partying at 3am, felt like
a rave was going on in my room. Called the manager,
she came withing 20 minutes and put an end to it. We
were good from there on).
The resort is beautiful, set up in a multi-tiered
layout that exudes privacy and charm. During the day
the pool bar is open (2 for 1 happy hour 3-5pm),
then the Sea Glass Bar opens with the restaurant (Smilin
Joes - the best in Rincon). The hotel gets a little
busy at night at people come from other hotels and
accommodations to eat dinner at Smilin Joes. Loved
the quiet mornings, adequate continental breakfast
available, and staff and service were great.
The area around the parrot is quiet, decent ocean
views are abound, and waking to the sounds of many
birds and coqui (local frogs) was fantastic. We
really enjoyed taking our continental breakfast back
up to our private patio and relaxing in the am. The
bakery next door (Punta Mar) has great pastries and
most items you would find at a 7-11.
The Lazy Parrot is a great overall stay, good
service and friendly staff. If your looking for a
quiet retreat to return to after a day down on the
beaches, this is the place. But beware, the small
size of the Parrot (which is it's charm) means that
if the other guests are not in the same mindset as
you (quiet, relax, chill) then you are out of luck.
If the Parrot would not allow kids under 18, I would
come back repeatedly. We had an obnoxious family
from New Jersey (by the way, is being loud, rude and
obnoxious a requirement for living in New Jersey??
No wonder you have stereotypes) whose kids were
throwing rocks in the pool, diving in the pool
(right over the no diving sign), and basically
tearing up the place. My only complaint of the
Parrot is that the staff was slow to respond and
enforce their very own rules that they so proudly
advertise. BE ADVISED, THE OTHER GUESTS WILL MAKE OR
BREAK YOUR STAY, THERE IS NOWHERE TO GO TO AVOID
THIS. That aside, I still recommend the Lazy Parrot
to everyone heading to Rincon.
"Best of" in Ricon (IMO):
Pina Coloda - Villa Confresi beach bar
Breakfast and coffee - Taino International Cafe
Lunch - Shipwreck at Taino Divers
Happy Hour/Sunset - Calypso at Maria's, live music
on weekends
Dinner - Smilin Joes at the Lazy Parrot
Beach Bar - Villa Confresi (the Spot was closed when
we were there)
2nd Best Beach Bar - Tamboo (excellent wave
watching, sitting at tables not a bar)
Swimming Beach (calm) - anywhere in front of Tres
Sirenas down to the Coconut Palms (water was clearer
in front of Cocount Palms)
Swimming/Surfing Beach - Sandy beach, in front of
Tamboo. Fun but challenging swimming. Good beginner
surfing, no reef all sand.
Secluded Beach - Pools beach
White Knuckle Drive - head up to Las Cima for the
sunset
Surf/Dive Shop - Desecheo Surf
Beach B&B - Tres Sirenas (didn't stay here but
checked it out, it's perfect!)
Beach Resort - Villa Confresi, cheaper than RIncon
of the Seas but worthy
"Worst of" Ricon:
Rincon Beach Resort - can you say overrated and
overpriced? Yawn
Horned Dorset - same as above, for that money go to
a pricey resort in a more tropical and exclusive
destination in the Caribbean, say St. Lucia or St.
Barts.

My Wife and I have visited Puerto Rico on many
occasions during the last 10 years, settling on
Rincon as our favorite spot. We had dined at the
"Parrot" on several occasions before this trip, but
this was our first stay. After reading the earlier
reviews, we opted for a top floor room which also
included a rather large terrace with umbrella, table
and chairs. Our stay was just what we sought. Quiet
nights, relaxing days and outstanding food, now
under the capable hands of "Smilin' Joe". Joe was
our bartender on our first visit and now has
graduated to owning the concession for the
restaurants and bars. We appoint the Lazy Parrot as
our home away from home, in Rincon.

We stayed for two nights at the Lazy Parrot, and I wish we
had stayed there rather than moving on to the Hilton!
Truthfully, it was a better value. The website doesn't do it
justice. We had one of the large panoramic view rooms
upstars, and it was perfectly clean and extremely
comfortable. It was also very spacious. The food in the
restaurant was exceptional--even better than the Hilton, and
the bakery next door provided options for an early breakfast
when we didn't care to wait until 8 am. The staff was
friendly and accommodating. It was just a lovely stay--a
much better value than the resort we moved on to. I would
come back here in a heartbeat.

My friend and I stayed for a long weekend in January 06. We
found the Lazy Parrot to be a very nice base for exploring
the West Coast of Puerto Rico. Our room was upstairs, with a
nice terrace from which we could see the ocean in the
distance. The room was clean, although there was no hanging
space for clothes. It had a mini-fridge and a tv with many
English and Spanish channels. We enjoyed the two dinners we
had in the restaurant (the goat cheese and beet quesadillas
were great) and we found the bar to be a comfortable place
to hang out.
The hotel is close to the lighthouse plaza (El Faro) and the
surrounding beaches, BUT you must have a car. And you
absolutely need a map other than the one the rental company
will give you. Plus, there are many interesting things
within an hour of the hotel - the Camuy Cave Park, the
Areceibo Observatory, San German and La Parguera, the
phosphorescent bay.
All the staff members we met were helpful and polite. I
would recommend this inn to anyone looking for a calm,
low-key vacation.

I stayed at the Lazy Parrot with my wife, 3 kids ages 10 to
27 and my in laws. The hotel itself is very quiet and has 11
rooms. We had 3 rooms upstairs which, if you are going to
stay there, you should be upstairs. The downstairs rooms are
inside the inn and views are non existent. This is a good
place to stay if you want a Quiet hotel. There is not much
for young kids to do there at the hotel other than the pool
which we found to be chilly, suprisingly enough. The pool
side bar is OK but drink prices were high. The restaurants
food was good but the menu is not nearly extensive enough
and the fare is Pricey. I paid $27 for a steak that was OK
but came with nothing but french fries. There is no kids
menu to speak of so we ended up eating out most nights
elsewhere which is hit or miss and certainly involves
driving. In my opinion, if the menu was expanded and the
value increased, the restaurant would do a bigger business,
but then, maybe they dont want to? Seemed strange to me
because we left the hotel 6 out of 7 nights for dinner
elsewhere incurring lost time and of course, fuel expenses.
Eating out is hit or miss as well. All in all, not real
satisfied with the dining opportunities in the area.
The rooms themselves were clean and sufficient though we had
issues with tiny red ants biting us and leaving welts. I
sprayed several times but still got bit and by the time we
left for home we were gratefulto leave those buggers behind!
The firt few days we had an ocean swell and rough seas due
to tropical storm Gamma off the south coast. We spent the
first few days searching the coast for calm waters and a
decent beach to swim on. Cabo Rojo has decent beaches but is
a 40 minute drive. Steps beach which is near the hotel is a
great beach for snorkeling, once the waters calmed we did
snorkel there and saw lots of fish and some coral. We did
invest in a snorkel trip out of Paguerra ( 1.25 hour drive
)with Paradise Scuba and was extremely happy that we did.
They run a class act there, 3 stops, one mangrove and two
coral reefs. Was awesome. My kids got to hold an octopus
that our guide caught near the mangoves island! Highly
recommend that trip if snorkeling is your bag.
Rincon is a place for surfers, if big white sand beaches and
kid activities are your thing, look elswhere!
Bottom line, would we go back again? Definitely not with the
kids and not so sure we would by ourselves either, there has
to be better places that dont cause you to leave in search
of better during your stay. If you do go, look for flights
into Aguidilla airport, its MUCH closer than San Juan. And
by all means, get a rental car and the GPS system is a MUST!
Most everything is a drive. Forget about El yunque for a day
trip.Too far.

Just got back from a few days in Rincon and stayed at The
Lazy Parrot. We drove from San Juan and didn't take along
the directions on their website - but make sure you print
them out and take them... there is some road work in Aguada
(just before Rincon) so we had to ask a few times, but we
got to the hotel with no problem as soon as we found the
famous route 413 - 'The road to happiness'.
Lazy Parrot is right on route 413 which is the main road
that runs 'above the beach' all along the 'Puntas' area
beaches and then above the surfing coast, past the marina
and into the small town.
Rincon is a little different from your usual beach resort -
since there are lots of different beaches to explore, rather
than one long beach 'strip' like we found in San Juan.
Since everyone has to have a car to explore the different
beaches - The Lazy Parrot is a great place to base yourself.
Easy access to virtually everything in Rincon... and plenty
of parking just across the street. Best part of The Lazy
Parrot is that after a day of hanging out at the beach,
diving or horseback riding... you can just 'escape from
everything' and relax in their 'country resort' type
athmosphere...
The front of the inn is on 413 which can be busy at times -
but the back of the inn is what sets this hotel apart from
all the beach resorts.... Built into the side of the hills
that circle the 'Puntas' beaches - The Lazy Parrot has a
restaurant that gives a view of the ocean in the distance
(over the hills). Going down one level, there is a great bar
that overlooks the pool/jacuzzi/lunch snack bar below... The
pool is surrounded by lots of flowers/palm trees so you
really forget all the hustle/bustle of the beaches and just
RELAX....
We had considered staying right on the beach - but we're
glad that we chose the Parrot - since the beach areas tend
to be busy with more people and activity... and at the
Parrot we were only 3 minutes from the activity of the beach
if we wanted it... but has the peace, quiet and nature back
at the hotel to relax and get away from the world...
The staff was great, the included continental breakfast
buffet had good strong Puerto Rican coffee, pastries,
cereals, bagels, juice, etc... If you need more, there is a
good bakery just next door for sandwiches or to stock your
minifridge with sodas, etc.
Rooms were comfortable and had everything you need - cable
TV, airco, ceiling fans, minifridge, telepnone, desk area
and my cellphone even worked fine. Some rooms have a small
deck area - and the upstairs rooms have a great view of the
ocean in the distance....
Before I got to the hotel - I had fantasies of taking a
morning walk down to the beach... but the beach in Puntas
(Pools Beach and Sandy Beach) are down a steep hill... so
even though The Lazy Parrot is only about 3 minutes from the
beach by car - you wouldn't want to walk...
We were there mid-week - and the restaurant at Lazy Parrot
was open every night - so we ate there most of the time....
restaurants at most of the beach hotels were only open on
the weekend in summer.
We did go to the Mexican restaurant on the main town plaza
which was nice and very reasonable. The town plaza has just
been renovated and you have to check it out... its really
nice at night and worth a visit....
Since The Lazy Parrot is in such a convenient location to
explore the area - I think that we visited every beach in
Rincon... at least to take a look.... The Puntas beaches
right by the hotel are great for beach
bars/volleyball/activity - but still lots of space for
walking the sand...
The surfing beaches that border the lighthouse were pretty
empty, since surfing season is during the winter - but were
great when we wanted a 'private beach'... The beaches in the
Corsega section were best for swimming... but also had more
people (but still no where near crowded) and not so many
beach bar type places to grab a drink...
Many times I'm reluctant to rent a car in new places - but
driving in Rincon is easy - almost impossible to get lost
and lots of fun to just take a side street and explore a new
beach at the end of the block (all beaches are public so
even at the big resorts - you can enjoy their beach)
We should have planned to stay more time - since we didn't
get to go out to Dechescho (sp?) island which looms in the
distance and would have been great for snorkeling. We also
would have liked to take the sunset cruise or try the SNUBA.
With so much to explore - we'll have to go back soon... and
for sure we'll stay at Lazy Parrot... I definately have to
come back to watch the surfing this winter!

The Lazy Parrot was a joy to stay at. The
hospitality was great. The pool was relaxing
and the parrots outside were a joy to see.
The staff came to the room everyday to make
our beds and clean the room. The restaurant
had great food and the people at the bar
treated us great. I would recommend the lazy
parrot to anyone because of the courteous
staff and the scenery. I would stay there
again, if I visit Puerto Rico again. Thanks
Lazy Parrot.

We stayed here for only 2 nights and had a
wonderful time. The place is in a beautiful
spot and has very nice grounds and friendly
staff. Our only complaint would be that we
had room (#5) right in the lobby area and it
tended to be loud. We didn't notice it at
night - only early in the mornings. However,
our room was comfortable and the bed was
very comfortable.
Most notable was the food here. We had an
excellent dinners here - the best that we on
the West and south/west side. Our dinners
were perfect and were large portions. Lunch
was equally good. The staff was very
outgoing and friendly. We would definitely
stay & eat here again. We would just see if
there was a quieter room. Our stay was

We didn't stay here, but wished we had.
During our 5 night stay in Rincon, we must
have visited the parrot 4 times. Delicious
food, and you MUST try their specialty
frozen banana drink, made with fresh
bananas, ADDICTING! The chef Scott was
awesome too. He brought a few of us on an
excursion to the most amazing waterfall! It
is not even on a map and we had to hike
about 30 minutes to get there! The woman
running the Lazy Parrot informed us that we
would not like San Juan(our next
destination) and boy was she right. Lots of
great food, drink, and advice! Can't wait to
go back....and stay next time.

Had dinner here Sun Jan 23, 2005 the last
night of our 5-night stay in Puerto Rico,
and this was by far the best food we found
during our vacation. Called ahead with
questions and hostess was kind enough to
read off the menu items. Restaurant
atmosphere was great--cute parrot theme
throughout, and Carmen our server was
friendly & helpful.
Had jalepeno pina poppers, jerk apple & goat
cheese salad w/grilled chicken, crunchy
snapper w/plantains & house salad w/a tasty
cilantro vinagrette dressing. Watched a
beautiful sunset and took photos. Wish we
would have discovered this restaurant
sooner, since the other restaurants,
beaches, shopping & attractions we found on
the island were very disappointing. Glad we
were able to end our vacation with a
positive experience.

My husband and I needed an escape for just
one night while visiting family in PR. We
went to the Lazy Parrot and had a terrific
time. The restaurant was delicious. We both
had fish dishes that melted in our mouths
and Joe the Bartender created the perfect
tropical ambience. It was quiet and peaceful
and the owners went out of their way to
assist us after our car broke down, even
shuttling us to the beach while we waited
for a replacement vehicle. We would highly
recommend the Parrot to both locals and
mainlanders!!! And by the way, the views are
magnificent.

The Lazy Parrot Inn was a beautiful place to
stay while we were on vacation. The building
is very beautiful with all of it's different
colors. The motif is quite nice with real
parrots (in cages) all over the Inn. The
staff makes The Lazy Parrot Inn a total
delight. My husband is a vegetarian and the
chef, Scott Sedden, made superb dishes for
him. It was nice to be treated so well by
everybody. The night receptionist, Luz
Selenia Mercado Matias, a.ka. "Rita Moreno"
was a joy to be around. She has a fantastic

husband and I recommend the Lazy Parrot Inn

We just returned from our first venture to
Puerto Rico. While we didn't stay at the
Lazy Parrot, we did eat dinner at there. We
LOVED the whole place. We wished we had
stayed here instead of at the beach. The
cool breezes and laid back feel of the place
was great.
We had gotten some pretty rotten food and
service from our other dining adventures
(Stay away from El Cocho) and were shocked
at how great the service and food was here.
In addition, the dining area is beautiful.
My girls (12 + 14) even found something on
the menu and loved playing with "Chili" the
resident parrot.
I didn't see the rooms, but would highly
recommend for dinner.

The lazy Parrot in a clean, well kept Inn
with lots of atmosphere. The food in the
resturant was very good. The staff was
helpful and frendly. The pool area is a
beautiful, secluded place to relax. The
rooms have alarm clocks, refrigerators,
microwave ovens, and lots of channels on the
TV. The only drawback to staying here again
would be that we are scuba divers and the
schedules of the Inn and the dive boat
didn't match. We had to leave for the boat
before the continental breakfast started and
didn't get back from diving untill after the
kitchen closed for lunch. It is close to
town, the beach, and several nice places to
eat.
